(March 6, 2024) – The Haudenosaunee Nationals announced today the 22-woman roster, comprised with four alternates, that will compete in the 2024 U20 World Lacrosse Championships in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong, China will host its first World Lacrosse championship since the China Hong Kong Lacrosse Association was founded nearly 30 years ago. The historic event will also mark the first-ever visit for a Haudenosaunee team to the host nation, for international competition.
The competition will be the seventh edition of the event, and the first to be hosted in Asia. A total of 23 teams competed in the last edition of the event in 2019 in Canada.
“It was tough for our coaches, but they put together a versatile roster,” said Claudia Jimerson, Director of Women’s Lacrosse Operations and HNL Board Member. “They are a group of hard working young ladies who have the speed, talent and ability to move up the rankings in this year’s championships.”
The Haudenosaunee women will be led by Will Mraz, head coach at Nichols College, and no stranger to the International stage. Mraz joins the Nationals after serving as the head coach of the Czech Republic Women’s National Team from 2016-2020. The Czech team’s recent fourth-place finish at the 2019 European Cup helped secure the nation an invitation to compete at the 2021 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama.
Joining Coach Mraz, is assistant coach Julie Duffy, and U20 alum/current Haudenosaunee National Women’s team member, Jalyn Jimerson. USC Assistant Coach and former All-American Syracuse netminder, Asa Goldstock, has recently been announced as the team’s fourth assistant coach.
For Claudia Jimerson, the sky is the limit for this group, which boasts a healthy mix of veterans who have competed in several WNT events, including the 2022 World Lacrosse Championships in Towson, Maryland, the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, and most recently the historic gold medal team at the PALA Sixes Cup in Kingston, Jamaica.
“We have a mix of veterans who have collegiate and World Championship experience that will help lead this team of young aspiring athletes to potentially their best finish yet!”
